New York Magazine has alerted us to another weird thing about Mark Zuckerberg (the first was his preference to only eat things that he kills, which just sounds exhausting). Anyway, this is what a Facebook employee said of his job recruitment experience with Zuckerberg. It should be noted that the employee just received a random email from Zuckerberg one morning asking him to come to Palo Alto to discuss a job opportunity with Facebook.
“When the visitor arrived, he met Mr. Zuckerberg in his office, and was then immediately whisked away to the wooded trail. More than one potential employee who experienced the same encounter said the entire experience was “pretty disorienting.”
“Zuckerberg said money wasn’t an object and that if I wanted the job — and why wouldn’t I, he questioned — the paperwork was already ready to go back at the office,” said the person who ran a small start-up Mr. Zuckerberg was trying acquire. “The entire experience was totally surreal. I really felt like I was on a date.”
Apparently multiple colleagues of Mark think the feeling of dating him is part of the whole Facebook hiring process. COO Sheryl Sandberg told The New Yorker recently that when she met with Mark in the lead up to joining the company they met for dinner twice a week for six weeks. Sandberg’s husband said “It was like dating.”
