This morning Debra Shigley, Editor At Large of The Grindstone, stopped by The Today Show to talk to hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb about making a major career change and finding passion in what you choose. Debra is a journalist, career coach, and author of the book The Go-Getter Girl’s Guide: Get What You Want in Work and Life (and Look Great While You’re at It.) If you haven’t read it, put it on your must-read list.
The segment focused on Marla Romash, a woman who had an amazing career in politics but knew she needed to pursue her true passion: baking. She went back to culinary school at the age of 55 and though she says it was the most challenging thing she has ever done, it has also been her most rewarding. Debra said of the mid-life career change, “It is definitely a trend. Many people get to that point in their lives and they feel an incredible urge to do something and not have any regrets.” She also noted that you not only needed the passion to change careers as well as some money, but the skills and talent as well. That is the only way you can have a thriving business.
Watch the clip to see what else this smart woman has to say about the mid-life career change.
